Number 10

Death The Kid is a strong warrior, but he does have some pitfalls. For one, he has one extreme case of OCD. And two he can never dye his hair. The character has said before he’s tried to dye out the white stripes in his hair, but the color never sticks. According to Atsushi, the dye won’t stay because Death The King has shinigami heritage which forces the chemicals right out of his body.

Number 9

When audiences first meet Franken Stein in Soul Eater, they know just how strong the meister is. Though he is unhinged, the mad scientist is a powerful student who graduated from the DWMA when Maka’s parents were students. However, it’s more than just that; Stein is said to be the most powerful graduate of the DWMA ever. Gifted with Soul Perception skills, Stein can work with almost any Weapon partner, and his soul wavelength was intimidating enough to bring Maka to her knees when she first saw it.

Number 8

In the Soul Eater anime, Maka is occasionally depicted as having a winged soul during her various fights. This is further elaborated in the manga when she learns that she is known as a Grigori. A Grigori is an incredibly rare type of soul that is said to appear in only one out of fifty million people. With this soul-type, Maka gains the unique ability to sprout angel wings and fly. The process of flight is incredibly difficult and requires the use of a death-scythe.

Number 7

Soul Eater fans were introduced to Joe Buttataki after the BREW arc. Anime-only fans were told that Joe Buttataki was a technology expert and would be conducting a secret project for Lord Death. This would eventually be revealed as a mechanism that allowed all of Death City to move. However, in the manga, Joe Buttataki’s actual prowess was in lie detection. The character served as an interrogator investigating the recent suspicion of a mole in DWMA’s premises.

Number 6

From the very beginning of Soul Eater, becoming a Death Scythe was listed as a weapon’s ultimate goal. Death Scythes were powerful weapons that were deemed viable for the use of Lord Death himself. Despite this goal, the Soul Eater anime never resulted in any of the main characters achieving Death Scythe status. The manga, however, gives fans the ultimate payoff of Soul Evans reaching the status of Death Scythe. While not much changed as far as status quo, and Soul remained Maka’s partner, this was an accomplishment that many fans had been eagerly awaiting.

Number 5

In the world of Soul Eater, there is only one true Lord Death. Fans were introduced to him in the very first episode and throughout the anime, he boasted a significant presence. While Lord Death has a child, as long as he is alive he will be the only true Grim Reaper. The anime hinted at his potential death during his fight with Asura, but ultimately let Lord Death survive the attack. The manga, however, is not so forgiving. With Lord Death’s sacrifice, Death the Kid would go on to become the official Grim Reaper.

Number 4

In Soul Eater, Mifune is one of the most revisited and powerful foes for the character Black Star. Black Star first encountered him in Episode 2 and went on to fight the samurai a number of times. The anime ends with Black Star overcoming Mifune for the first time and convincing Mifune to join the DWMA. In the manga, the fight goes down slightly differently and ultimately ends with Black Star defeating Mifune in a life or death battle. Because Mifune was never an outright villain, his death was one of great honor and pride as a samurai.

Number 3

While Soul Eater has no shortage of villains, you would be hardpressed to find anyone more unsettling than Crona. What you probably did not know is that despite having pink hair, Crona does not have a gender. While there were many things puzzling about Crona – so much to focus on, it seems that the one things that captured the curiosity of fans were the fact that it was impossible to determine if Crona was a boy or a girl.

Number 2

When Atsushi, the creator of Soul Eater first introduced the concept, it was not his intention to make into an extended story or complete manga. It was initially purchased as a set of three separate one-shot presentations. However, it was not long after the initial release that Atsushi realized that there was so much more to explore within the current storyline.

Number 1

One thing that is rather common among anime creations is the tendency to introduce multiple naming puns into a series. Maka is just another in a long line. Maka’s name is more than just a subtle hint at her fighting style and her weapon of choice. Her name is actually an anagram for the Kama, a Japanese word used for the scythe.
