Hey chooms welcome to night city’s number one blog Green Tea anime and this is your host Green Tea himself. Today I’m going to do a review on the Netflix animated series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. But if your a Gonk who doesn’t like to read no worries I have the review up on my YouTube channel GreenTea. Now with that out the way turn on your BDs and get ready to brain dance.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a 2022 Polish-Japanese cyberpunkweb anime series based on the video game Cyberpunk 2077 by CD Projekt Red. The series was animated by Studio Trigger under the supervision of CD Projekt and premiered on Netflix in September 2022. Set in the Cyberpunk universe created by Mike Pondsmith, the anime serves as a prequel to the game and takes place about a year before the events of Cyberpunk 2077.

Dreams are doomed to die in Night City, a futuristic Californian metropolis. As a teenager living in the city’s slums, David Martinez is trying to fulfill his mother’s lifelong wish for him to reach the top of Arasaka, the world’s leading security corporation. To this end, he attends the prestigious Arasaka Academy while his mother works tirelessly to keep their family afloat. When an incident with a street gang leaves David’s life in tatters, he stumbles upon Sandevistan cyberware—a prosthetic that grants its wearer superhuman speed. Fueled by rage, David implants the device in his back, using it to exact revenge on one of his tormentors. This gets him expelled from the academy, shattering his hopes of ever making his mother proud. After witnessing David’s newfound abilities, the beautiful data thief Lucyna “Lucy” Kushinada offers to team up with him, handing him a ticket to salvation. However, associating with Lucy introduces David to the world of Edgerunners—cyborg criminals who will break any law for money. Edgerunners often lose their lives, if the cyberware does not break their minds first; but in his fight for survival inside a corrupt system, David is ready to risk it all.

Listen Netflix anime has been getting good lately they may have finally cracked the code on which to fund and which to let die. Now this is not by any means giving them an excuse for the terrible live action shit they been doing but this anime is so good I binged it in one night with all of my friends we legit stopped the party we were having just to watch cyberpunk all the way through and I enjoyed every second of it. Cyberpunk has such good world building that when they introduced the story it fit in perfectly not to mention they dropped FREE DLC just to have it tie in with the game and I appreciate that a lot. Now I know people have a sour taste in their mouth about the video game and it’s buggy terrible release but stop being a gonk and pick the game up now it’s such a full complete experience it definitely deserves a lot more love than what it gets, plus why don’t you want to be best friends with Keanu Reeves if that was just a game by itself I would buy it and play it. But let’s get back to the anime and why I love it, well for one it’s action packed and gory not in a disturbing way but a Devilman Crybaby kind of way. I love the story and how much it’s truly a hero’s journey, you really see David become a night city legend. Now if you played the video game and you payed attention to the lore you find around night city you know what it takes to become a legend in night city and you can kind of guess how it’s going to play out but the journey there is so good there’s a reason it has a 100% score on rotten tomatoes. What I really love about the show is how some side characters and locations that are in the game also show up and the whole time I was watching I was just thinking hey I’ve been there and it really feels like you have because the game is in first person it felt like I was going through memories. If none of this excites you the cosplayers who decided to cosplay Lucy should, I am very thankful for this anime because of the character design. If you want a good 1 season anime that’s easily accessible then this is the anime for you I wouldn’t recommend something that I don’t think is high quality. This anime gets a 9.5/10 for me, please follow if you enjoyed the review but most of all thank you for reading choom!
