Hello! Thank you for Tuning in to Green Tea anime. Today I’m going to review Vinland Saga and let you know if it’s worth the watch or read. if you dont like to read or just prefer a video instead please check out my youtube channel GreenTea to watch the review.

Background

Vinland Saga is a Japanese historical manga series written and illustrated by Makoto Yukimura. The series is published by Kodansha, and was first serialized in the boys youth-targeted manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Magazine before moving to the monthly manga magazine Monthly Afternoon, aimed at young adult men. As of May 2022, its chapters have been collected in 26 tankōbon volumes. Vinland Saga has been licensed for English-language publication by Kodansha USA.

Plot

Young Thorfinn grew up listening to the stories of old sailors that had traveled the ocean and reached the place of legend, Vinland. It’s said to be warm and fertile, a place where there would be no need for fighting—not at all like the frozen village in Iceland where he was born, and certainly not like his current life as a mercenary. War is his home now. Though his father once told him, “You have no enemies, nobody does. There is nobody who it’s okay to hurt,” as he grew, Thorfinn knew that nothing was further from the truth. The war between England and the Danes grows worse with each passing year. Death has become commonplace, and the viking mercenaries are loving every moment of it. Allying with either side will cause a massive swing in the balance of power, and the vikings are happy to make names for themselves and take any spoils they earn along the way. Among the chaos, Thorfinn must take his revenge and kill Askeladd, the man who murdered his father. The only paradise for the vikings, it seems, is the era of war and death that rages on.

Review

If you haven’t watched Vinland Saga go watch Vinland Saga don’t even finish the review that’s how good this anime is. If your into action adventure anime what’s stopping you from adding this show to your list I’m honestly mad at myself for not getting into it sooner. If you like to read I would definitely suggest reading the manga the major difference between the anime and manga is how the story is told, in the anime the story focuses on Thorfinn while the manga has a Game of Thrones kind of storyline where it focuses on multiple people so you do see a lot more perspectives. I enjoy the main protagonist so much and his growth throughout the story you really see him become a Viking warrior. Don’t even get me started on the battles and fights I love really well animated fights it makes it breaks some animes for me and this one has made my top ten list for good fight scenes. The way Vikings are portrayed in this show I feel makes sense they are savages they loot, plunder, and will kill everyone in the village as they ransack if need be. If you want a violent yet compelling story this anime is the one to watch I had such a good time seeings all the characters interacting with each other and fighting each other. I feel like there’s people in history we just are always fascinated with like ninjas, samurai’s, knights, and of course Vikings. This show to me feels historically accurate and depicts Vikings being what they are and for that and all the reasons I listed above I’ll give this anime a 9/10.

Thank you for reading please donate if you enjoyed the review let me know in the comments what you think about Vinland Saga do you hate it or enjoy it.
